BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street own approximately 15% of the S&P 500. How they vote this shareholder season will have a huge impact on our climate. The first big test is Tuesday, April 26th ― when three of the world’s largest funders of fossil fuels, Citibank, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America, have their annual shareholder meetings.

At each of the three banks, there will be shareholder resolutions that call for the banks to align their business models with the actions necessary to limit global warming to 1.5°C, including policies to stop all financing activities for new fossil fuel expansion. If these resolutions pass, it would be a huge step toward climate justice.

Join us in sending a direct message to Wall Street’s largest investors: they must vote for climate action this shareholder season.

How to join the Calendar Jam

  1. Open your calendar app, such as Gmail or Outlook. We’re going to be sending calendar invites to BlackRock CEO, Larry Fink, and Global Head of Investment Stewardship, Sandy Boss; Vanguard CEO, Tim Buckley, and Global Head of Investment Stewardship, John Galloway; and State Street Street CEO, Ronald O’Hanley.
  2. Pick a time on your calendar on Tuesday, April 26th, and schedule a one-hour meeting. Include the name of one of the three banks in the title of our calendar event. You can use a title like: “Citi AGM: Vote for Climate” or “Wells Fargo AGM: Vote for Climate Science” or “Bank of America: Vote for Climate Justice”
  3. Copy all of the following email addresses and paste them into the invite field of your event.
  4. Make sure to click “send invitations” so the executives get an email notification as well.
  5. Rinse and repeat. Hot tip: multiple invitations are more effective than long events. CEOs and executives will have to decline each and every invitation, making it  impossible to ignore our calendar invitations.

If you are new to calendar invitations, check out more detailed instructions on how to use Google Calendar and Outlook. If you use another calendar, Google for instructions.
